Zara

Zara is the Managing Partner of Splash, which she set up in July 1999. Splash has taught more than 4000 people to swim in Devon since it begun, along with many school lessons too!

Relevant Qualifications: PGCE (PE teacher), BA (Hons) Sports Development, Level 2 Swimming Teacher, Babies and Pre-school, Child Safeguarding Course, Junior Lifeguard Instructor, Deaf Friendly Courses, Rescue Test for Teachers, DBS Enhanced Checked and Emergency First Aid At Work.

Zara has been teaching for over 20 years and still loves seeing her pupils swim for the first time, or improve their strokes and water skills further.

Zara teaches all ages and all abilities and has always loved the water and sports from a young age. A Modern Pentathlete who competed to National Level winning a Team Gold Medal at the National Biathlon in 1986. Inspired by GB swimming coach Paddy Garrett, who trained Zara and ignited her passion for streamlining and stroke efficiency for faster swimming.

When not teaching or running the Splash Office, Zara loves to spend time with her family and animals or walk her dogs.

Simon

Simon

Simon is a Managing Partner of Splash and has been Zara’s support in the Splash Office and right hand man since Splash was started in 1999. They are also married with two teenage children.

Relevant Qualifications: ASA Level 2, Safety Award for Teachers, First Aid, Safeguarding Children & Adults and DBS Enhanced Checked

Simon has a Degree in Civil Engineering and is amazing at fixing everything and anything; he is always the first person we call on for help! 

Simon is a Registered Foster Parent and enjoys seeing children reach their full potential.  He also juggles looking after the animals on his smallholding and renovating the house. When he gets the chance he is a bit of a thrill seeker, so has been known to bungee jump, sky dive or abseil for charity.

Becky

Becky

Becky started working at Splash in September 2014 and has been teaching swimming since April 2013.

Relevant Qualifications: ASA Level 2 Swimming Teacher, Babies and Pre-School, National Pool Lifeguard Qualification, Child Safeguarding Course and DBS Enhanced Checked.

Becky teaches all ages from babies to adults, all abilities. Becky comes from a line of swimming teachers, her Mum is a swimming teacher, as was her Grandmother, so it’s become a family tradition!

Becky was part of a local swimming club growing up, which fuelled her interest in swimming techniques and likes to combine it with developing confidence, enabling her swimmers to happily pursue and enjoy many water activities in the future.

Her biggest achievement to date is receiving a 2:1 BA Hons degree for Creative Writing. When Becky’s not teaching she likes to do anything creative, whether it’s writing, painting, baking or knitting! She also loves to swim in the sea when it’s warmer and snowboard whenever she gets the chance.

Molly

Molly

Molly started teaching for Splash in January 2016 and has been teaching since August 2015. 

Relevant Qualifications: STA Level 2 Swimming Teaching, National Pool Lifeguard Qualification and RLSS TA, Child Protection Course, Junior Lifeguard Instructor, Teaching People with Disabilities,  Baby and Pre-School, Emergency First Aid at Work and DBS Enhanced Checked.

As a child Molly’s love for water grew from family swims most weekends and camping trips by the beach in Cornwall. Molly enjoys teaching people of all ages and any ability. In 2015 she worked in America teaching cycling and swimming and really enjoyed seeing how the children progressed successfully with their swimming.  She loved seeing their joy when they conquered a fear or a new skill, this led to her deciding to commit to train as a swimming teaching on her return to the UK. 

She is currently studying Biology and Sports Science and hopes to go to Exeter University and study Sports Medicine and a PGCE to teach at University level in the future. When she is not teaching,  Molly enjoys cycling and has in the past raced her BMX bike at European level and competed in the World Championships in 2014 in Holland. 

Nikki

Nikki

Nikki started working for Splash in February 2007 and has been teaching swimming since September 2005.

Relevant Qualifications: Level 2 Swimming Teacher, Babies & Pre School, Child Safeguarding Course, Rescue Test for Teachers, Learning Disability Awareness and DBS Enhanced Checked.

Nikki teaches all ages from babies through to adults at all levels, she particularly loves teaching non-swimmers or early stages.

Her love & inspiration for teaching swimming comes from seeing someone who is scared and lacking confidence, then transformed to a relaxed swimmer who is enjoying the water. Nikki has always loved the water and has a passion to pass this on to others.

When she’s not teaching she likes to travel, her bucket list just keeps getting bigger!

Malcolm

Malcolm

Malcolm started teaching for Splash in 2010 and has been teaching and coaching swimming for over 20 years.

Relevant Qualifications: Level 3 Swimming Coach, Level 2 Swimming Teacher, Rescue Test for Teachers, Child Safeguarding course and DBS Enhanced Checked.

Malcolm teaches and coaches children that can swim from Turtles through to Sharks. Alongside teaching at Splash he is also the Head Coach for Sidvale Swimming Club based in Sidmouth, he has a great eye for detail and is passionate about seeing swimmers develop excellent swimming techniques & skills.

When Malcolm is not teaching he is a Church Warden and is currently renovating his new house. Malcolm enjoys swimming, cycling and walking his dog with his family too.

Samson

Samson

Samson Started working at Splash in September 2016 and Has been teaching swimming since 2015 in UK.Relevant Qualifications: STA level 2 Swimming teacher, National Pool Lifeguard Qualification, PADI Scuba Diving Advanced Open Water Diver plus Enriched Air Diver, Child Safeguarding Course and DBS Enhanced Checked.

Samson teaches a range of ages from 3 years old up to adults. He has always been a keen swimmer from a young age as well as participating in water activities. Before relocating to the UK with his wife, Samson taught in an international British primary school in Beijing, China.

Samson has a passion for teaching non-swimmers and young children because it is rewarding to see the progress that can be made over a series of lessons. His ethos is that learning should be fun and his teaching takes account of different learning styles, ensuring that learners feel comfortable and safe in the water.

In his spare time, Samson likes to travel abroad and make the most of opportunities to take part in sea swimming, snorkeling and skiing. Last year, Samson enjoyed completing his scuba diving qualifications. He is also trained in photography including underwater shoots and was previously a professional trumpet player in the Chinese military.

If you ever hear a bird noise in the swimming pool, it’s probably Samson!

Rowena

Rowena

Rowena started working for Splash in July 2016 and has been teaching swimming since 2007.

Relevant Qualifications: ASA Level 2 in Swimming Teaching; Safeguarding and protecting children; Safety Award For Swimming teachers; Sports and Exercise Science BSC (HONS); Disability Awareness, Adult & Child, AquaFun, Diving, and MInipolo CPD’s and DBS Enhanced Check.
Rowena has been swimming from a very young age and has competed at Regional and World Master events and feels she can pass her knowledge and passion of swimming on to others. Rowena is able to teach all ages and abilities.
She is undertaking her Adult and Child Course at the moment and since having her son in 2015 she feels she could use her experience of swimming to help parents of babies and young children too.
When Rowena is not teaching swimming she loves walking with her dog and being outside with her family.
Sarah

Sarah

Sarah has been teaching at Level Two (with Adult and Child Certification) since 2006 and previously worked with Zara and Splash until 2009 and returned in 2016.

Since that time she has studies for and attained a Masters in Play Therapy as well as having a family of her own.

Relevant Qualifications: ASA Level 2 Adult and Child Swimming Teacher, National Rescue Test for Teachers and Coaches, Emergency First Responder qualified,  Safeguarding Certification, Safeguarding and Welfare Officer Training, Makaton Signing, Baby Signing, MSc in Play Therapy including Child Psychology, Child Development, Advanced Play Therapy Skills and Child Protection Protocol. Enhanced DBS checked.

Sarah teaches all ages and abilities from babies to competitive swimmers and adults. She has a playful and engaging approach with young children and a supportive nature to all. Sarah has also had great results fine-tuning Butterfly and Flip-turns!

Sarah swam competitively from a young age and was also an accomplished Synchronised Swimmer and experienced Lifeguard.

Still swimming 10 miles a week, Sarah also loves to Cave whenever possible and enjoys a busy family life with young boys.

Sarah’s biggest achievements are attaining her MSc while starting her family!

As she returns to Splash, Sarah recalls co-ordinating a huge sponsored swim with Splash that was in aid of Breast Cancer Research. It remains with her as one of the most humbling events that she is truly proud of.

Sammy

Sammy

Sammy started working for Splash in January 2017 and has been teaching swimming since she was 16.

Relevant Qualifications: Level 2 Swimming Teacher, Level 2 Diploma in Coaching Swimming, Child Safeguarding Course, Further course in Working with Children with Autism and DBS Enhanced Checked.

Sammy enjoys teaching all stages and likes to see her swimmer’s confidence improve, reach their targets and feel proud of themselves.

Her love & inspiration for teaching swimming comes from being a competitive swimmer who has competed at National level. Swimming has been important to Sammy, giving her confidence and self-esteem whilst growing up and is keen to pass on her passion to others.

Jodie

Jodie

Jodie started working for Splash in February 2017 and has been teaching since 2013,  she spent 3 years teaching overseas. 
 
Relevant Qualifications: ASA Level 2 in Swimming Teaching; Safeguarding and protecting children; Safety Award For Swimming teachers and DBS Enhanced Check.

Jodie has been swimming from a young age, firstly for a local club then going on to compete at National standard. She then became a lifeguard at her local Lesuire Centre and naturally followed on to complete her teaching courses. Jodie first started volunteering at her local hospice pool and it was there she fell in love with teaching. 
Jodie has recently come back from teaching abroad in Cyprus and has also taught in Portugal and Spain. During this time she had great fun and saw phenomenal progression in hundreds of children she taught. 
 
She believes some of her best characteristics were developed through swimming and hopes to pass on her knowledge and passion to others.  Jodie enjoys teaching all ages and abilities and prides herself on putting swimmers at ease with her enthusiastic, smiley approach. 
 
When out of the water Jodie enjoys spending time with family and friends, discovering new activities and eating out. 
Sam

Sam

Sam started teaching for Splash in May 2017

Relevant Qualifications: Level 2, baby & preschool, safeguading children, safety award for teachers.

Sam teaches all ages from babies to adults. Sam used to swim competitively until the age of 14. From then on, she always wanted to work with children and started off volunteering, helping with teaching. Sam has found a love for teaching and wishes to continue to share this enthusiasm through everybody she has the pleasure of teaching.
